Lest we forget
“The Last Swiss Holocaust Survivors” is a touring exhibition about Swiss holocaust survivors, which opened in May 2017. We were allowed to create the information platform for this. A special project – not only for initiators.
Challenge
“The Last Swiss Holocaust Survivors” is a project from the Zurich-based Gamaraal Foundation, which was founded in 2014. This foundation campaigns for financial support for Holocaust survivors who are suffering financial hardship, as well as providing educational projects about the Holocaust and genocide prevention. Anita Winter, daughter of Holocaust survivors and founder of the Gamaraal Foundation, sees it as her mission and duty to keep the memory of the Holocaust alive.
The “The Last Swiss Holocaust Survivors” touring exhibition was brought to life in May 2017 as a result of this conviction. getunik was asked to design a website for this project, to serve as an information platform for the exhibition and appeal primarily to schools. Our guiding questions when we were designing the website were: How do we present this topic in a worthy manner? And how can we create a meaningful connection to the exhibition?
“It is our generation’s responsibility to continue the cry of ‘never again’.”
Anita Winter, Founder of the Gamaraal Foundation
Faces & stories
Just as they do in the exhibition, the survivors make up the heart of the website: full screen portraits and impressive interview films make up its foundations. The statements from the survivors in the portraits which are displayed in large print also have a dominant presence.
Modest & clear
Website navigation is simply and clearly structured, with seven navigation points, and the information can be found quickly. The modest design creates focus and calm.
Effect
A sensitively designed, memorable website for a strong and important exhibition.
