More voices in the fight for the environment!

Together we are strongest – that is the top priority for non-profits. Because in the fight for a better world, we need like-minded people to join forces. But how can we reach them? Through an effective website that makes the organization visible and motivates others to get involved together. To achieve this, technical aspects must also be considered. The Munich Environmental Institute recognized the importance of this interplay and brought getunik on board to support a website relaunch. From the analysis of the old website, to the creation of the appropriate website relaunch concept, to the implementation and continuous optimization of the new site – together we completely modernized the web presence. With our focus on optimal UX/UI, the Munich Environmental Institute can now reach even more people and encourage them to work together for change towards the future. A modern website for a modern topic!

Challenge – Get an update, before it’s too late

Even in the age of social media, a user-friendly website that is visually appealing and technically up to date plays a crucial role for non-profits. It is the platform they need to enter into a dialog with their supporters, build trust and establish a long-term relationship. However, at a time when technical developments are advancing rapidly, it is a challenge to keep websites up to date in terms of content and technology. At the latest when the navigation is complicated or the design is no longer appealing and therefore no longer reaches the target group, a website relaunch is required. This allows the most important functions to be updated and user expectations in terms of UX/UI to be met. This also includes refreshing the design and improving the speed and performance of the website. This was exactly what the Munich Environmental Institute wanted. So the brief was very clear: a website relaunch for the good guys – exactly our thing!

Solution – The perfect website relaunch concept

A good relaunch requires time, a professional team and the perfect website relaunch concept! All within the scope of our expertise, because we at getunik know what needs to be clear before creating a relaunch concept and what questions the concept needs to answer. For the Munich Environmental Institute, the focus of the concept was on developing an optimal UX/UI design. In other words, a website that is easy to use and visually appealing for the target group. To create the perfect concept, we joined forces internally and contributed our accumulated experience from over 20 years of web development. In addition, the results of the user journey workshops conducted with the Munich Environmental Institute and the consideration of target group-relevant use cases enriched the concept. A particularly important point for the Environmental Institute was that the participatory activities and various information campaigns should be highlighted on the new website.

«A website relaunch is an exciting but challenging project. It is important that a team of experts is formed for the implementation, both on the part of the organization and the agency. As an agency, we greatly appreciate a close, friendly and yet professional collaboration such as the one we had with Umweltinstitut München.»

Implementation – With the modular system of the getunik NPO Theme

By opting for the getunik NPO theme, the Munich Environmental Institute had already created the best conditions for an optimal website relaunch. With our WordPress theme specially designed for the needs of NPOs, organizations can easily operate their new website, launch new campaigns independently if desired and keep it up to date. This laid the foundation stone. Further implementation took place in three phases:

  • Phase 1: Analysis
The first step was a major analysis: Both target groups and content were analyzed. With the content audit, we identified the most important landing pages and keywords and thus laid the first building block for the website relaunch concept. Based on this, user journeys and use cases were defined in an analysis workshop – the basis for the optimal content architecture.
  • Phase 2: Conception
For the appropriate website relaunch concept, the various entry points of the users were taken into account, such as by directly entering the URL in the browser, via a newsletter via a link or via a Google search query for a specific topic. In terms of UX/UI, the aim was to create a user interface that is intuitive in layout and design, has visually appealing elements and shows a clear and consistent hierarchy of information. Optimal technical performance with short loading times and minimal delays was also to be achieved. After all, smooth and pleasant navigation contributes to visitor satisfaction and thus significantly increases engagement and donation income.
  • Phase 3: Implementation
With the NPO Theme, the Munich Environmental Institute was able to benefit from low implementation costs right from the start and can enjoy a high degree of flexibility in the configuration of various features in the future. On a technical level, we connected the website directly to the CRM (CiviCRM) so that new contacts are automatically created in the primary database. In terms of content, we were able to strengthen the motivating character of the participatory campaigns by adding a counter for previous entries.

Just in time for Giving Tuesday, the Munich Environmental Institute launched a new chapter with its new website, which focuses on joint commitment!

Effect – Increased visibility for more votes!

The Umweltinstitut München wanted a modernized website with an exciting design and full technical performance. Wanted, done! With the relaunch, we were able to remedy several technical deficiencies that were in the way of increasing the visibility of the Umweltinstitut München. Among other things, we achieved this by focusing on various donation options, but above all through the various participatory campaigns. Since the relaunch, the Umweltinstitut München has already collected over 91 thousand signatures for various participatory campaigns via the website. The campaigns “Protect biodiversity, stop glyphosate!” with over 35 thousand signatures and the campaign “Stop the climate poison!” with over 14 thousand signatures within a very short time are particularly noteworthy.

The Umweltinstitut München website also features a user-friendly design that is geared towards users’ needs, preferences and behaviors, with a visually appealing, clear and uncluttered homepage. Interested parties can now be better reached, important topics can be brought to the public more easily and even more like-minded people can be reached in an uncomplicated way. With the new website, the Munich Environmental Institute encourages everyone to work together for change towards the future. Now nothing stands in the way of the fight for a diverse and species-rich environment!

Umweltinstitut München – Tagline

Independent – critical – committed! The Munich Environmental Institute was founded in 1986 with the topics of radioactivity and nuclear power and today also fights for the preservation of biodiversity and the containment of the climate crisis. The non-profit organization is mainly financed by donations from its approximately 12,000 supporting members, foundation grants for some projects and a small proportion of funding.

«We wanted to get even more people excited about our project and encourage them to get involved. To achieve this, a functioning and appealing website is essential. During the relaunch of our website, getunik provided us with reliable and continuous support.»

Jurek Vengels, Campaign Planning / Board Member, Umweltinstitut München

getunik-services

getunik was able to support the Munich Environmental Institute in these steps:

Focus on hands-on activities

The current campaign is advertised on the homepage. The highlighted call-to-action button “Join in now” encourages visitors to take part in the online petition. The “Join in” subpage (green button) provides an overview of all current campaigns, each with a counter of previous entries and thus strongly encourages participation.

Where we come from and what we stand for

Its own website is a platform for entering into a dialog with supporters, building trust and establishing a long-term relationship. On the “About us” page, the Munich Environmental Institute opens up and tells its story, discusses its values and shows the impact of various campaigns.
